Hi!
Almost everyone who owned an xbox 360 or elite have faced problems with the infamous Red Ring Of Death (RROD) or Red ring of ligths( RROL). It like almost both are the same but what i find is that the problems caused are different. Almost everyone has tried the X-clamp fix or having an additional cooler but, these not the problem solvers. When Microsoft produced these products in the years 2006-2007, these models suffered the severe failures. Most of the people tried the towel fix. I feel that all the efforts we made are the temporary fixes. So, when you try to find a good deal on ebay, make sure that you buy pre 2005 0r post 2007 xbox 360's. i also cannot gaurentee that these things will not fail but the failure rates of these products are less. when you try to fix your existing xbox 360s try to do the reflow method, which is the basic cure for all the problems. Almost 99% of these problems will be solved. When trying to find the alternative methods for prevention, you can try Talismoon whisper max fans to replace your existing stock fan or by using the Nyko intercooler as the cheapest alternative. The 2008 versions of the xboxes come with the falcon chip set which consumes 175watt power and are less prone to overheating but not the complete solution for RROD problems. If you want to be on safe side with your xboxes, even before the RROD strikes, and if you are out of warranty, try the preventive methods like the extra cooler and X-clamp fix and doing the 3 penny trick as the extra safe guard. The 3 penny trick acts as a heat dispenser of like a heat sink and dissipates the heat from the ram chips through the pennies to the consoles tray. This can help you avoid the E74 problems. These are all the things that i found out from my experience with the xbox 360s.
To buy the spares or mod kits like Talismoon fans and xcm fans, you can find some sellers on ebay but, i also recommend trying www.llama.com, www.xboxslave.com, www.maxconsole.net.
Hope this addresses some of your fears and problems. AN\nd also, if you have any good alternatives, please let the community know.
