Postcards That Stick Like Glue
Presented By www.etopiamarketing.com

While studies show that many postcards have only 3 to 5 seconds to work their magic as they’re on the way to the wastebasket, others stick around for days, weeks, months, or even all year long!

Wait! It gets even better! Some postcards are never thrown away. That’s right. Never. In fact, if you poke around in your files or drawers, chances are pretty good that you’ll run across a postcard that you either received in the mail or picked up somewhere years ago!

Now, we’re not referring to your great vacation-at-the-dude-ranch souvenir postcard, or the “I ate 21 marshmallows and threw up.” postcard that your kid sent from summer camp. Of course, you’re going to keep those precious treasures forever.

We’re talking about business postcards. These are cards specifically created to bring more leads, sales, revenues and profits! So, why did they stick like glue when all the others got tossed?

They made their message timeless with information that is just as valuable today as it was when first printed.

They created a powerful emotional or practical appeal that absolutely could not be ignored.

They used photos, colors or other graphic design elements that intrigued or delighted the eye.

They created something that was totally unique—something never before seen or used by their competition.

They made the postcard just too useful to discard.

In other words, they made postcards that stick like glue—forever!

A word of caution is in order here: Don’t ever forget what you want your postcard to accomplish. It won’t matter how clever, colorful or memorable it is if it doesn’t get the job done for you. You will have just wasted both time and money. Having said that, and we want you to take that advice seriously, here are a few ideas to consider when creating a “sticky” postcard.

1. Provide information that has a long shelf life: calendars, schedules, maps, charts, how-to tips and tools, recipes, etc.

2. Send a series of cards with sequential or related information. Number them so that the recipient knows they’re part of a series.

3. Create a collectible postcard: use photos, themes, and information that commemorate a special event, person, product or service.

4. Include a re-usable coupon or special offer. Maybe one that never expires. It might be as simple as an imprinted “code” that the cardholder uses with each purchase.

5. Find multiple ways to get them into your prospects’ hands: mail them, hand them out, stuff them in product packaging, include them in invoices, drop them off where your prospects congregate, use them at trade shows, etc.

When you discover that your postcards are stuck on bulletin boards, file cabinets, refrigerators, under the glass on desk and tabletops, in glove compartments, briefcases and purses, then you’ll know that you have a postcard that sticks like glue—forever!
