Most people, after learning a little about the incredible furniture designed and produced by the famous Bauhaus archetects and designers are anxious to own at least one piece of this furniture. One of the first things they do is look for a company that sells Twentieth Century classics, the likes of which may be a Corbusier couch, an Eileen Grey table, a Mies Van Der Rohe chair and ask "Are these original?" Well, unless one is ready to put down an astronomical sum, in the six figures, the answer will be NO! What one can purchase today instead, are really good, savvy reproductions of pieces made and designed during the very very shortlived years of the Bauhaus school, created and by Walter Gropius and filled with the very avant guarde designs of Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, Eileen Grey, Rene Herbst, Mitzutani and many, many others.
The Bauhaus survived until Hitler shut it down. Many designers of Jewish descent fled to the West. To this day, the benchmark of great furniture design is and always will be the Bauhaus.
Though you may not have, or may not be willing to part with one hundred or so thousands of dollars for an original, know that wonderful copies are still being made today for only hundreds of dollars.
But! do your homework! Check to see that the size of whatever you purchase is true to the original. Make sure the manufacturer uses the finest leather, triple chromium, excellent craftsmanship and has a long and experienced working with the best manufacturers.
Even just an accent of a Bauhaus piece can make any interior absolutly unforgetable!
