A2DP is the abbrevation for Advance Audio Distribution Profile. This is one of a profiles use by Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that provide small-form factor low-cost radio transmission solution for small to medium size devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, home stereo speakers, car kits, PC, laptops, printers and TVs.

A Bluetooth profile is the standard interface use between 2 Bluetooth devices. Some examples of profiles are:

  • A2DP profile transmit (stream music) from A2DP enabled mobile phones to Bluetooth A2DP output such as stereo headset or speakers.
  • Basic Printing Profile (BPP) allow text and data to be transmitted to Bluetooth enabled printing device.
  • Generic Audio/Visual Distribution Profile (GAVDP) transmit images from one Bluetooth Device to another as in sending a picture from a mobile phone to the Bluetooth laptop

How does A2DP works?

This technology works by encoding the incoming audio to a Bluetooth format and then send the signal wirelessly to a Bluetooth A2DP enabled devices that decode the high quality music output.

Note: Make sure that your device is A2DP Stereo enable before running out a store or log in you EBAY account to purchase a A2DP headset. It will not work. You need an additional device to make a non A2DP device to work with A2DP device. Below is a list of A2DP adapters/gateways:
