When collecting vintage roosters you can often get an idea of the age of the piece by looking at the feet. In ceramics 1940s roosters have sculpted feet , later examples often have the foot detail painted on. Some companies re released ceramic chicken pairs in the height of the rooster craze but the finish is flat rather than glossy . Loss of red paint on the combs and wattles is not a big concern when collecting these items. Often the item was finished with cold paint (a paint applied after the body was glazed) and loss from age is to be expected. Look for brands such as Copley, Lefton, Artmark and Napco for style examples.

Stylized roosters with arching backs and exaggerated tail feathers were popular on tablecloths,tin and wood items in the 1950s. Colors such as pink, black,aqua and yellow were popular pre 70s.

Modern examples of rooster collectibles are seen in items by Warren Kimble and Timberlake.
