most people dont know this but you can get your gsm phone unlocked for free. I know it works with congular and t-mobile, you must be an active customer for at least 60 days before they give the code here is how it works.

You have a cingular phone and you want to get it unlocked.This is what you have to do is call Cingular Customer service and tell them you are leaveing out of the country and you need the unlock code for your phone, they may transfer you to a different dept they will ask you for your cingular cellular number and your imei number which is a 15 digit number on the back of your phone you can also get this number by pressing *#06# on your cell phone. They will also ask for your email address and they will email you the unlock code, if you are not a cingular customer but you have a cingular phone that needs to get unlocked you need to ask your friends and family who have cingular and have them call in and gice the cingular people your imei number. Once you get the unlock from cingular what you want to do is figure out how to unput this code into your phone at this point i would google search your cell phone model and enter unlock.

For t-mobile Customers follow the same steps above but call t-mobile customer care
