you've rebuilt your rochester 4 barrel and it still blows black smoke, maybe even more than before. a common problem is the wells drip because the lead plugs become loose. take the base plate off. You'll see two small lead mounds at the bottom of the wells. give them a gentle smack with a small hammer and for extra measure mix up a small batch of JB weld or the like and cover them, let dry overnight assemble base plate to carb. and if all else is right the smoke should be gone after a hard test drive.
