Recurring questions on eBay involve "What to Sell? . . . Personally, I like to strike while the iron is hot. Opportunities abound if you think "outside the box" and recognize the potential. A few examples:
1) After 4 November '08, the Obama campaign field offices had to recycle literally TONS of election materials. I knew that many of these items would have great souvenir value between Barack's election and inauguration day. So I offered to "recycle" this stuff and take it off their hands. Result: eBay MegaBux$$$
2) The death of analog TV is fast approaching (17 February '09). So back in July '08, I exhorted everyone I knew to apply for their $40 government coupons for digital-to-analog converter boxes. I paid everyone their net prices + modest "thank-you" fees for their extra boxes . . . and sold all of them well after the November '08 coupon deadline. Again: eBay GoodBux$$$
3) Two clients -- with five Harley-Davidson motorcycles between them -- asked me to sell them all quickly before the northern riding season closed down. Since the national motorcycle rally at Sturgis SD ended on 10 August '08, I knew that transport would be at a premium (most riders don't actually ride to these rallies. . . they ship their bikes). So I lined up "futures contracts" with my U-Ship carriers, then posted the clients' bikes on every site available -- eBay + its international sites, craigslists, the H-D exchange, iOffer, etc., etc. The idea was to get them sold and shipped before cold weather effectively killed the North American motorcycle market for the year. It worked: all sold on eBay -- MegaBux$$$
My own short answer on "what to sell?" is: "Do what Nobody Else is Doing . . . or Hasn't Thought of (Yet)"
Hmmmm. . . maybe I should become a consultant and quit the auction biz itself.
