I had a cell phone years ago, I still have it in the garage. It was a SONY that at the time cost $100, but now is literally worthless. Unless the house is attacked by aliens, and I'm trapped in the house and can use it to call 911 for help.

About 6 months ago, I had been wanting to get a cell phone again, but was really shopping around to find the best deal, but I did not want to sign a 2 year contract. You never know what may happen in the future and getting stuck for a long time, if I for whatever reason wanted to stop, or switch would be a bummer.

I was in Walmart and saw the net10 display, and looked everything over, took a brochure, went home and looked it up on Google. I seem to take months to make up my mind and research everything 3 ways to Sunday.

To do research, I looked on scam sites, blogs, comparison sites. So, eventually I decided to go for it. The phone was literally free, as it was $29.97 and included 300 minutes and 60 days airtime, and the 'aircard' for that same time is $30, so the way I saw it, that meant 'free phone.'

This means it is $15.00 an month.

We still have a home phone, as I need it in case the cable for the internet goes down, as I need that for business, and I use SKYPE for long distance, so a cell phone is just for emergencies, or to be in contact when not at home, not something I would ever use to 'chat' or 'gab' on.

I have used it to do my 'radio show' when I am away from home, that works out good too.

The airtime rolls over too, so now, six months later, I have a little over 1000 minutes left.

The way I figure now, when I get some crazy amount of minutes on it, and no plans to talk that much, I will just sell it on eBay, as lets say I have 2000 minutes on it, that would be worth $200 retail just for the airtime.

I do see others doing this, and a phone with 1000 minutes sometime may go for $50 - $60 or more.

So if I want to upgrade, although this phone works great, I could just sell it, and use the money to replace it, another free phone!
