The ruck sack in my opioion is buy farbetter than most hicking back packs on the market today due to you ability to add gear to it or remove it.to fit the terrain your going into.the pouches can be used for those dryfood,packs to bottled water.And molle has made the best upgrades for those old Alice packs that so many of us still use the upgrades are the shoulder straps that have twice the padding in them also twice thw width for add comfort and the strenum strap is built in.the upgrade kidney belt is the best iv'e ever seen or used on the standard Alice  pack set up. More paddin more support for you back, and your abilityto carry more weight is better also,The molle canten pouche can also do double duty as extra pouche or for hicking it can be used as a extra gear holder for D-RINGs or rock climbing powder.the Molle gear is the way to go for all your outdoor needs or anything else you can think of, You can use the pouches for that electrical meter's for the construction worker.
