I just wanted to let everyone know there is deceptive marketing ploy going on for LED flashlights. Some flashlight manufacturers are claiming to offer 7, 8, 9, 10 or more watts coming from a Luxeon LED. Lumileds is the manufacturer of the Luxeon emitter/LED component. For flashlight applications, they currently produce a Luxeon (aka 1W), a Luxeon III (aka 3W), a Luxeon V (aka 5W), and a Luxeon K2 (new product which uses appox 6.5W). Many of these over rated products will produce less lumens than a good Luxeon (1W) torch. For more information go to lumileds.com , candlepowerforums.com , or flashlightreviews.com/features/fff.htm . FYI: the wattage numbers (1W, 3W, 5W, and 6.5W) are commonly referred numbers, even though input power is often changed. The input power, even when changed, is NOT anywhere near what these misleading manufacturers claim.
