There has been a lot of buzz around the Consumer Electronics and Entertainment industry about Virtual Reality Glasses.  We decided to purchase the iTheater unit as it best suited our son's needs.

Easy To Use

Charging is a snap, just plug the Li-ION battery into any USB device to charge.  The charge lasts about 8-10 hours depending on what type of device is being used with the glasses (iPod vs. PS3 or xBox).  To use the device, simply plug in the one end of the battery pack to the glasses and the opposite end into the video device you wish to use.

Devices That Support iTheaters

The glasses can be used with:

  • iPod
  • iPod Video
  • iPod Nano
  • xBox
  • xBox 360
  • Gamecube
  • PS3
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Any other device that supports RCA connections

Included Accessories

  • Battery Pack
  • USB charger
  • Velcro tabs to attach the wires to the glasses
  • Wires to attach to the video device (RCA type + iPod)

How the Glasses Create a 50" Image

The video eye glasses are worn just like any pair of glasses, except that there are individual screens in place of lenses.  The screens are positioned approximately 1" from your eye (similar to looking through a pair of binoculars).  Everything appears larger which is why you have the feeling that you are looking at a 50" screen.

Sound

The unit has earbuds attached to the arms of the glasses that insert can be inserted into the ears when in use.

Size

The unit is slightly larger than a pair of sunglasses

Why Our Son Likes Them

  • Novelty
  • Practicality

He can wear the glasses and pretend that he has a 50" plasma in his room.

Why We As Parents Like Them

  • No Screen burn - when you use any gaming device on a TV, plasma or rear projection TV, it is known to burn the screen over time
  • The built-in surround sound headset means that there are no issues with noise in the rest of the house
  • Our other children can play or sleep undisturbed
  • No fighting over TV rights - we have less TVs than people in our house so prioritizing TV time for one child over the other can be a problematic.  This problem goes away as the glasses become another "TV Unit" in the house.

Other Great Uses

  • Great for road trips - no TV required
  • Great for plane rides - you attach it to an iPod video or DVD player and watch, pause and play movies as you desire.  It's like having a mobile theater!
  • Great for small apartments - when you have space constraints in an apartment, you can use these and get large screen effects while gaming or watching movies
  • Get you right in the game - when you wear these surround sound headsets and have the large screen, you truly feel like you are part of the action
  • Great to watch TV while in bed - If you share your bed and like to watch movies late at night but do not was to keep your partner awake, this allows you to watch your own personal programming.

Final Thoughts

After seeing the enjoyment our son got from this device, I decided to sell them as well.  Click Here to Find Them on eBay.
