For those who have had a small glimpse at the t-mobile G1 "conference" will agree that Cole Broadman (Chief

Technology and Innovation officer at T-mobile) tried his best to make the new G1 look like a valid player in the

mobile communications field. Over and over were the words "android software", "open", "open-system" tossed around.

I can definately agree that this new Android software may have some nice features such as copy + paste, zooming and

a few others that will make internet browsing a little easier however compared to the iPhone or even the new iPhone

3G, the G1 only seems like old technology. Here are a few reasons why you should save your $20 and get yourself an

iPhone 3G.

The cons:
1) The design of the G1 makes it look like an older version of the T-mobile sidekick. More like a sidekick version 0.25
2) Although it has a touchscreen, it does not perform anywhere near like the iPhone does for example scrolling through photos still requires the old "tap on the arrow" rather than a side swipe.
3) No established 3rd party developer community exists. The iphone has the biggest 3rd party developer community in the world even surpassing the blackberries - windows Mobile platform.
4) HSDPA or HSUPA connectivity means the battery will last 25% less than the iPhone 3Gs operating on a 3G network.
5) The google music store is a joke and nowhere as neat as the iTunes store. The backend system only has had a few months to be tweaked and perfected. iTunes has been around for over 6 years!
6) Did I mention it will only work on tmobile? While the iPhone 3G is already unlockable to work anywhere in the world
7) It is only a dual band cellphone while the iPhone/iPhone 3G are quadband worldphones.
8) Nobody has used android before, whereas the MAC OS thats running on the iPhones are all too familiar and really easy to use. If you are not a computer wizz you will have to get used to this new system.
9) Apple comes out with new firmware updates at least once a month for the iPhone, having been a tmobile customer for over 3 years and having owned 3 PDA cellphones I can guarantee you will not receive a software update until about 1 year after the intial launch - happy bug fest!
10) If you are business owner or an IT professional, forget about running your enterprise apps on the G1 - no such software exists. The iPhone has enterprise support built in.
11) No physical syncing or backing up of your data exists with the G1, I am always a little less concerned knowing that my iPhone data is backed up at all times in iTunes. If something does go wrong with your G1 and you loose data - good luck manually typing up all the contact information - and restoring your important media, email etc.

The pros:
1) Full qwerty keyboard
2) Google based additions not readily available on the iPhone
3) $20 cheaper and tmobile usually offers cheaper plans.
4) 3 Megapixel camera as opposed to 2 MP on the iPhone/iPhone 3G

11 cons and 4 pros I will leave the final judgement to the buyer but my recommendation is to get an iPhone instead for what its worth and performance wise the iPhone/iPhone 3G is still lightyears ahead of the G1.
