Hello my name i s Bobby Ferrusi and I have been an avid hunter since the age of 14.
Unfortunately at the age of 18 I suffered a spinal cord injury due to a climbing accident whick left me ahving to use a wheelchair.I knew that after being faced with the challenges og dealing with everyday life situtions , hunting was just going to have to become another fight in which I knew I would have to win!
The first thing to remeber is that if you want to achieve something bad enough , you will find a way to do just that. Hunting while being faced with mobilty problems offers the hunter a chance to become inovative and think every action and senario through. One of the most obvious concerns of hunting from a wheelchair is what is the terrain like? will there be mud? snow? hills? will there be logging trail sto hunt off of?
Plan you hunt accordingly. If you plan on using your wheelchait to mauever get a good hunting buddy who understands the physics of a wheelchair and how to help you get to your stand. There are both ground blinds and power tree stands availble for the mobilty impaired hunter, Buckmasters has a great site on just this subject.Buy knobby tires for your chair to help you grip and pust throughthose wet leaves and mud.If you are able to get onto an ATV look into renting or purchasing one. They can be an invaluble tool in getting to and fro a stand and makes getting you harvest out that mush easier. Also if there is alot of snow cover the use of a snowmobil ewould be a wise choice. My biggest buck ever was shot off a standing snowmobile which I hid in some small cedars! Dont forget to check with your local and state lwas regarding hunting from any type of motor vechicle. Most state do offer special permits for disabled hunters.
Goodluck and keep me posted .Sincerely, Bobby"wheels"Ferrusi
