I love my Honda Civic Hybrid!
It is a 2003, SULEV (super ultra low emission vehicle) manual 5 speed. I now have over 90K miles and have changed tires at 50K and front brakes at 70K - that and recomended maintenance - that's it.
I now commute 224 miles a day - over a mountain, through 6 counties and elevations from 0 - 4000 ft.
I average over 50 MPH! However it is not very powerful or fast. One must anticipate hills and passing or plan on plodding along. However the initial pickup is adequate and with anticipation hills and passing are adequate and cruise speeds at 70+mph are smooth and easy.
It was worth what I paid for it for the first two years, it is still worth over $11k so has lost value at less than $1700 a year. And it has saved me avg. $2700 in fuel per year! (compared to former 25mph vehicle)
In some respects the Prius is superior - speed, in town milage etc. -but for the money and long commute the Civic is excellent. However the seats aren't the greatest - but typical of Civics and with some adjustments have served me well.
