I have been taken to task numerous times, and often in language which would not be allowed elsewhere on eBay, regarding the use of the term Gay Interest. Except under the adult category there is no place on eBay for gay interest material. The very words, gay interest, can mean that an item has some gay content, or, as often used, could mean that a particular item would be of interest to gay and lesbian users. Often with vintage photography I use the term to direct those interested in images of men that would be found attractive in one manner or another. It does not mean to imply that the subject is necessarily gay. In most cases such would be unknown.  It appears that it is being used more often in vintage photographs regarding images of two men, and in some cases they might be touching.  This was not uncommon in the nineteenth century and perhaps the term Gay Interest is becoming overused in such cases.  There is a difference between using the term to signify an item of interest to gays and those who use the term purely to draw attention to an item.  Surprisingly, at any given time there are far fewer pages responding to Gay Interest than to most subjects.  23 September 2006, an added note at this time, it appears that eBay, in its collective wisdom, has begun a witch hunt on the use of the term "gay interest".  eBay has determined that it is "keyword spam", meaning that "gay interest" is "falsely" being used to direct users to items unrelated to that term.  In other words, unless one can prove that the listed item is in fact gay then one cannot use the term "gay interest".  Interestingly, the number of items under "gay interest" fell in one day from 941 to 136.  Joe McCarthy would have been proud.  Now 20 May 2008. and I did realize it had been so long since my note in 2006.  EBay seems to have let up a bit on gong after gay interest in titles although it is still being overused by some sellers whom, I suspect, in many cases are not themselves gay but hoping to capitalize on its use.  I am personally restricting it use in my listings, first to make its use more unique, and second preferring not to offend my loyal customers whose interests lie elsewhere.  I have also observed a declining interest in such gay related images, perhaps due to the overexposure (tongue in cheek here)  of the male form elsewhere on the internet.  And perhaps due to my own choosing to  use the term less I have received far fewer nasty emails from other ebayers.  Hopefully, also, we are learning to live together despite  our differences.
