Oil Filter Basics- Motocross,Dirt Bike,Off-Road,ATV's
Marketing of consumable products such as oil filters, spark plugs, brake pads, etc is big business. Cheaper oil filter elements will have less pleats, which means less area for particles to be trapped. Better oil filters have pleats in the filter element that are closer together or basicly more surface area. The ability for a filter to flow and maintain pressure under extreme conditions is vital for proper oil filter functionality.
Re-Useable Oil filters- Are they less hassle or provide better performance?
Re-useable oil filter facts- Re-useable Stainless steel type oil filter cartridge systems are not what they are all cracked up to be. What we found even with the better, brand named filters, is that after time the stainless steel screens will get clogged with a dark film that no solvent will break up. Clogging of the filter, restricts oil pressure within the motor. This in turn will “cook” the motors upper cylinder head components and “roast” the camshaft. Though the progress of this is slow, this will slowly kill the motor.
Using and replacing disposable oil filters, literally throws the problems away. Re-useable oil filter cartridges just re-use existing oil filter particles that are stuck deep within the filter media..
In conclusion, we have evaluated re-useable oil filters many times, often times the manufacture gives us the filter for free, for evaluation purposes. Need I say more? Of course, this is entirely the opinion of our staff, and testers, and makes no claims other than our opinion.
