Maybe writing the obvious but just in case I thought I would mention you should have one of each.  Since all crime has been solved in California, they made it a law to use a so called hands free device.  I'm sure it will save some lives and make more money for the state and business that sell this stuff.  Okay we sell it and cheaper than most places.  You can at least same some money there and be sure never to get caught with your phone up to your ear as you go by law enforcement.

Now you can find a Bluetooth device  to cover your wireless needs and something with a wire.  I like to keep one of these in my car just so it's always there.  I tend to wear my Bluetooth device everywhere and before you know it you left it at home on the charger. 

Now if you end up without any hands free device then you can usually put your phone on speaker phone.  A-ha this was the free tip.  Use it don't give the government anymore money!
