I am a very critical professional motorcycle builder. I would like to share a few ideas for anyone who is thinking about or in the process of buying a custom built motorcycle.
1.)The number one most important thing to look for is rideability and reliability. Without this all you have is a bike to look at(and if you are broke down on the side of the rode that wouldn't be any fun)!
2.)Are you buying a bike that was built with 100% new quality parts? This question needs to be asked.
3.)Is the seller the builder? If not, make sure he knows the complete history on the bike.
4.)Does the seller have proper paperwork to title your new bike? The proper paperwork on a new custom build will include a MSO for the frame, A MSO for the engine, & a MSO for the transmission. The only other paper you will need is a bill of sale that has been notorized by the builder.
5.)Is the bike completely street legal for any state? I will make sure all my bikes have a headlight with hi/lo beam, brake lights, auto cancelling turn signals, a horn and 2 mirrors. I you do not want all of these options, you can take them off after your state inspection.
These are the basic guidelines and if they are followed, you will likely have a one-off custom that will be your neighbors envy(or foe)for years to come.
