The majority of my ebay offerings are of minimal value and I have not been plagued by scammers..that is until I offered an antique Imperial convertible for sale. I received  "nice and nasty" links through the eEbay "ask a member a question" system.

The "nice" emails were very polite. The member identified himself by name. He said he was a fan of the car and had noticed an identical ad to mine running in the UK. He provided a link to that ad. The "nasty" email is not fit for print. I was accused of being a Nigerian scammer and had been reported to eEbay who assured him I would be kicked off  Ebay. I got the "get a job" you deadbeat treatment and a link to the "real" car that I had scammed the ad.

Both were fishing emails to get me to click onto a link that would allow then to download a virus..or otherwise steal my idenity. NEVER click on an unsolicited link.

In short order Ebay sent me a notice that both the contacts were fraud. I should avoid any dealings and protect myself if I had given them any information.

When responding to the "ask a member" forum never respond direct. Always respond through Ebay. Always click the "hide your email" option if offered. If you have a "gut feeling" something is wrong just delete the question. Follow your instincts. You owe nothing to a person asking questions. Seldom if ever do they buy and can be the source of most of the fraud.

Any question that you feel inappropriate can be reported to ebay. The box to the right of the email will have a "report this item" feature. If in doubt just report the item and move on without responding. Safe beats polite in our modern world where scamming is a industry.
