3. The Guide:
I will start with the basics to car buying on ebay and then go into the car itself. Most of the time on Ebay you are not even going to be able to see the car before you buy it, so make sure you do your research. The first thing you should do is look up the cars VIN number online to see if there is anything within the car's history that should throw up flags. Look for things like past owner's, flood damage, salvaged, fire damage, and if it has been in areas where major catastrophes have happened (such as in an area struck by a hurricane). The second thing you should do is look up the cars value on Kelley Blue Book or other sites like NADA. Do not bid on an automobile without knowing its approximate value. The third thing you need to do is get a loan (if you need to) for the amount of the car PLUS shipping fees, any dealer fees, taxes, license, etc. Seems many people forget that the price of a car is more than just the upfront cost! Make sure that you look at the pictures the seller has really well and ask for more if necessary!
Now to the Monte Carlo:
The Monte Carlo comes in many different versions, from the LS to SS Supercharged. The LS is the most "stripped down" version and the SS Supercharged comes with the most features, so of course the SS Supercharged will cost you much more. The Monte Carlo's sleak design gives it a unique look on the road! The bowtie headlights really make people look! The Monte Carlo SS is a very solid car that offers the very reliable V6 3.8 Liter engine.
The Monte Carlo LS comes with the very unreliable 3.4 liter V6. Why is this engine so unreliable? The intake gasket on these vehicles will blow, putting anti-freeze into your oil. GM knows that this is a problem, but to date has refused to fix it. This is a common problem on all 3.1 and 3.4 liter V6 engines. No matter how you drive the vehicle, it has become a matter of when and not if. I had a previous GM vehicle that blew the intake gasket, final price $900 (and I bought some of the parts before i took it in to make it cheaper). So here is my personal opinion: Spend a little bit more money and get a reliable engine- the Monte Carlo SS 3.8 V6.
There are many different packages that the Monte Carlo comes in, but one of the best looking is the Sports Package. This package offers you ground effects and a sports spoiler, which gives the car more of a NASCAR look. There are also the pace car editions and NASCAR Driver editions (my personal favorite is the Jeff Gordon edition with the flames that reflect in cetain light). The sport package cars seem to have tighter more responsive steering system and the suspension is wonderfully smooth. I have driven the Monte Carlo SS Dale Earnhardt Jr edition and the control with the car is simply phenomenal! I was able to take turns and curves much faster than with my Monte Carlo SS. These types of packages tend to make the car quite a bit more expensive and certain colors can make the car cost more. Yellow Monte Carlo's tend to go for much more on average while black Monte Carlo's seem to go for less. If you are one that doesn't car what color it is, look for the black Monte's!
Now I will cover some of the known problems with a Monte Carlo (other than the Intake Gasket). Many of the cars have problems with the rear defogger either breaking altogether or coming off the connector. If it breaks altogether, it more than likely will require you to replace the entire back window, not cheap at all. Another problem is the traction sensor may go out on the car. The traction sensor senses when one of the wheels starts slipping and has the other tires compensate for maximum grip on the roads. Although you can drive without this eventually the car may not go above 35 miles per hour and you will have to replace it immediately.
Monte Carlo's are fast and sleek cars that are NASCAR inspired. I would recommend this car more than any other car! Go get one!
This is one of my first guides, let me know what you think!
