My TOP 5 eBAY Selling TIPS

I've been selling items on eBay for a little while now and I've learned a few things that have made my auctions MUCH more successful.  I may not sell a lot of quantity, but I've learned how to sell quality.  I have put up auctions and watched the exact same items sell for much less than my auction.  I began to see that the few subtle differences between my auctions and the ones that sold for much less were very easy to fix.  These tips might seem very simple or even common sense, but if you utilize them - you will see a huge difference in your sales.

1.  WHEN TO END YOUR AUCTION:  SUNDAY EVENING

THIS is Very important.  If you have your auction ending at 3am on Wednesday, you'll be likely to only have some die-hard eBayer up bidding on your auction when it ends.  THE absolute BEST time to have your auction end is Sunday evening!  Most people are home relaxing - not working, not out on the town, etc.  So you can either make sure you have your 7 day listing submitted on Sunday evening OR make use of the Scheduling tool when listing your auction.  I usually schedule mine to begin around 9:30 PM ESTThis will have the auction end at 6:30 on the West Coast.  THIS WAY you will have the entire USA up and bidding your auction - not just the die-hards.

And if you can wait - if you don't need to sell your items now, waiting until after Thanksgiving for the Christmas rush will probably be very profitable.

2.  PICTURES:  CLEAR, UP-CLOSE PICTURES

I've seen SO many auctions with just one blurry picture of the item they are selling.  The title of the auction might say "NEW", but you have absolutely no idea if it is or not, b/c you just can't even SEE it!  This also makes the seller look like they are trying to hide something.  Put our your items on a WHITE SHEET or any other SOLID background and take some good photos.  And if the item is of higher value, it is worth taking SIX very clear, up-close, from all angles Pictures of the item.  If you only use one photo, make sure that it is a UP-CLOSE CLEAR Photo.  People like to see what item they are bidding on, plain and simple.

3.  GALLERY PHOTO:  USE AN UP-CLOSE PHOTO THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN!

I always utilize the Gallery photo options when listing - if you want your auction to be picked out from the 1000 search results returned, you need to have a good photo of the item listed beside your item Title.  So spend the extra few cents and tac one on there.  AND DO NOT use the STOCK photo eBay provides.  No offense to eBay, but Half the other sellers will be using the same photo and your item will NOT stand out.  USE YOUR BEST PHOTO from the ones YOU have taken.  IF you are selling a CD player - take an UP CLOSE pic of the CD Player itself.  You don't need a gallery photo of the CD player, the manuals, the box, the cables, and your dog named Spike all in the Gallery photo.  When the photo is beside all the other auctions, the buyer will not even be able to see your item for sale.  Just keep it plain, simple and clear.

4.  DESCRIPTION:  DETAILS, DETAILS, But not TOO MANY DETAILS

When listing your action, you have to have the essentials in the description:

WHAT YOU ARE SELLING:  Make sure you list important model numbers, colors, etc.  This way the buyer knows what they are getting.  BUT if you are listing some sort of item with TONS of SPECS, save all the detailed Specs for the end of the auction.  Most of your buyers may not care what level of MegaHz that your item runs on.

WHY YOU ARE SELLING:  When I'm buying I want to know why the seller is selling it.  IS it a broken piece of junk?  Did your dog pee on it?  Do you just not use it anymore?  Are you trying to free up some space?  THESE things may seem trivial, but they make you more connected to the buyer.  The buyer doesn't have to worry that you are just trying to throw a piece of junk at them.

WHAT IS INCLUDED:  Simply, list all that is included.  Including the retail box if you are sending that also.

5.  TITLE: USE ALL THE CHARACTERS ALLOWED

When you list an auction, the title is what the buyer is searching for when using the eBay Search Tool.  If you are selling a cd player, you wouldn't want to just put CD Player in the title - (BUT I've actually seen that before - it didn't sell for much.)  You probably already know that you should put the essential info in the title, but you have to throw in some extra non-essential info to be included in the most amount of Search Results as possible.  FOR Example, if you are listing a Camera battery like the CANON NB-2LH model, you would not just want to type in Canon NB-2LH.  Because everyone who searches for NB2LH will not get your auction.  SO I type in as many variables of the name as possible that people might be searching for.  So I would list it as NEW CANON NB-2LH Battery NB2LH.  This allows your item to be in more search results.

Well, I hope that these top 5 TIPS may help you in your sales on eBay.  They may seem simple, but they will surely be helpful in your results.  If you are utilizing them already, you know how effective they are, but if you are not - just try it out and you'll see the benefits.  You'll sell your items for more, you will not receive as many emails asking for more details, and your feedback score will reflect your extra work!
