Do you need help getting that title for your special vehicle, boat trailer, plane or custom build?
Many people have vehicles or other types of items that roll on wheels that need paper work in order for them to resell or operate on U.S. Highways. Obtaining these documents can be very time consuming and fustrating as well as extremly expensive.
There is a simple way, and a more complicated way of getting that title depending on the route you choose to get it done. For the sake of this log, I will be explaining the process using the laws of the state of Nevada, althou this will apply in general for all fifty states.(Laws will very from state to state).
The first thing you will need to do is get the vin number (Vehicle Identification Number) from the window or other location stamped on either a metal plate or directly on the frame or body itself. Then you will need to check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles to make sure that your V.I.N. is clear of any problems and able to be used.
Next comes the the fork in the road. On one road, you can try and go through the slow and painful process of having your vin inspected by your local highway patrol department, sheriff's department, or D.M.V. repesentitive then start the actual paper process at the D.M.V. which should take about six to eight weeks. This is the slow way.
The other road is more simple and alot faster. Search for a well respected and honest local towing company that can do a "lien sale package" for you at their tow yard. This process is done daily at all tow yards across the country in order for them to sell vehicles at their auctions or private party.
The process starts like this:
The tow company will come pick up the vehicle at your location (unless you make other arraingements with them) and bring it to their yard where they will make out a tow bill for the actual tow. They will need it to stay there for a few days. Next they will run a D.M.V. report to see who the last registered owner was and get a printed result. This will start the actual package needed to turn into D.M.V. for the new title.
After the report is done, within a few days the D.M.V. will send an inspector to verify the vin number to make sure it is correct and will furnish an appraisal report after completion. This is the most important document needed as this is the proof to the D.M.V. that the vehicle is able to be titled as a"clean" title and not as "salvage".
A clean title can be obtained from a tow yard for this application where a salvage title is obtained from a "wrecking yard or dismantler".
Last the tow yard will have you come in to sign the lien sale package and charge the fees at this point. They will either give you the total package or ,unless by law, turn it in themselves.
You will need to discuss the fees the yard will charge in order to do this sevice for you as they very from location to location, before you start. In general, the average title runs about $30.00 in itself, but the process to do this paper work is between $200.00 and $1000.00 depending on your personal situation.
This process can be done on all items with a vin number and wheels. Boat trailers are the same, but boats them selves are licensed through "Fish and Game" and are a different title route.
If the process is done correctly and there is no hold up at the D.M.V., you should recieve your title in about 5-10 business days.
Remember the process is a little different in each state and the delivery time on you title is also, so please be patient with the mail service.
If you think you might need help with this type of transaction, get a competent person to show you what you will need to complete the process quickly.
I hope this helps you to get that title fast.
Good luck to all.
