Sizing a choke or cinch collar
A choke collar is a closed collar that cinches when your dog pulls on it. So the main concern is that the collar will fit over your dog's head and will not slip off when your dog leans down to sniff the ground.
Measuring choke collar
To measure for a choke or cinch collar you need to have three measurements of your dog.
- over head and ears
- cinched
- where collar will sit
The reason for these measurements is because dogs come in so many shapes and sizes, and you want the collar to get on the dog and stay on the dog !!
Choosing a size
For most dogs, choose a collar size that fits over the head, and sits with about 2-3 inches to spare at the mid part of your dogs neck.
For hounds like greyhounds with a small head to neck ratio, choose a size that just fits over their head, this way it will not fall off when the dog bends down to sniff the ground.
