I bought a 26 ft Wellcraft advertised  in ebay, as "like new, always in dry storage, with 169 hours of use on the hour meter".  The advertiser claimed to be selling the boat "for a friend", that was not an ebay member. $8,800 later the boat was delivered, ($750) extra, and found to have water in the oil, destroyed bellows,  a bad coupler in the outdrive, a bad cylinder on the trim tabs, with most all wiring bad, along with several guages inoperative, and the engine/tranny warning horn wires cut to disable that warning system. No anodes. Two inoperable hour meters, one stuck at 284 hours.. The trailer was badly cracked and had to be welded to use,  no safety chains, or winch cable, along with many other problems.  Since the actual seller was not an ebay member, I had no recourse, and the actual advertiser could have cared less, since he claimed to be just doing a friend a favor by advertising the boat, of which he had no knowledge, and had never seen the boat himself..I just paid the boat dealer for a new engine, and various repairs totaling $15,646.72. Ebay's warrenty is 30 days from sale date, and does not consider the two weeks it took the hauler to deliver the boat to me (1,000 miles) or the time lapse before  the dealer's inspection due to summer month's rush.  I now have more than $25,000 in a  10 year old, $9,000 boat that has never been used since it's purchase by me 6 months ago. in July  2007. It is now February 2008, and still being worked on. to make it water-worthy.
