Rampant Bike Scam

Buyers beware, There is a motorcycle scam that is currently running rampant on eBay. It may also involve other  items also, but I have only seen it in Motorcycles. It starts with a bike, usually a Harley, stock or custom, with a "Buy it Now" price that is unbeleivably low. The seller will of course state that is in perfect condition, not wrecked or damaged in any way. The seller will usually, but not always request that anyone interested to contact them at a different e-mail address than the one on the "Ask Seller a Question". And that is usually listed right before or in the description of the bike, several times. The seller always says they will pay for shipping, the bike is almost always in another country, and they give various reasons why they are selling it so cheap. It's actually humorous at some of the things they come up with. They will always say that they are having a third party involved in the transaction, usually eBay, in some way, to protect both of you. They tell you once the money is deposited in an escrow type of account, that the bike will be shipped to your door, at their expense, and you will have a generous amount of time to inspect it, and only then will you contact the third party to release the money to the seller. I have communicted with some of these people and told them that I wanted proof that eBay was involved in the transaction, and to my surprise I would shortly recieve an e-mail that appeared to be from eBay, even with the eBay colored logo's and all, very official stating that this seller is insured for a lrge amount and basically desribe the deal the same as the seller had. I almost fell for this thing after that.  But then I went to "My eBay, and checked 'My Messages" and there was no e-mail from eBay so I knew then it was a scam. So beware of these scumbags, some of them are very smart, and some are really stupid, but reguardless this scam is very popular, I go though the web sites about every day and usually find at least 2 or 3 each time. If a deal sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Thank you, I hope I have helped someone not get scammed.   Glen
