Really watch for "ebay members" who put up listings for motorcycles/scooters that are like in new condition and start off the bidding at a $1.00 with no reseve, or something silly like that. I really wanted a Suzuki Bergman 400. This scooter normally retails in Canada for about $7,000+. There was listings for theses scooters with not alot of km's on them, in perfect shape with a starting bid of $1.00, with no reserve. He even offered a "Buy It Now" for about $1000.00 which included "free shipping" to anywhere in the world.
My husband and I were kind of spectical about this. I had emailed this person asking if the scooter had a free title (paid for), and the VIN (vehicle identification number) so that I could check it out to see if it was stolen and who the present owner is. This person insisted that he couldn't use the normal Ebay mail system and wanted to use his own email address (that way it can't be traced by Ebay). When he emailed me back he couldn't provide any of this information. Next, I went to the Live Help on Ebay and got them to check it out. It turned out that theses listings were fraud.
I am very glad that I didn't pursue this sale any farther. Ebay has many helpful services to help to protect us from theses kind of things. So in my experience STAY AWAY FROM THESES LISTINGS AND REPORT THEM TO EBAY. In Ebay we are a community and we need to help each other when we can. And remember, if it seems too good of a deal, it probably is.
