Johnson Evinrude (OMC) outboards are ID'd by their MODEL number. Your engine's model number should be on a tag loacted on the transom clamp assembly. If you don't see one there pop your hood and look for a silver seal about the size of nickel directly on the block. Mercury Outboards are ID'd by their SERIAL number. Your engines serial number should be on a tag on the transom clamp assembly. After you find it you can look up your engines year by going here: Mercury Outboard Year Lookup
