With gas prices hovering around the $4.00 a gallon mark, more and more people are buying scooters and mopeds to cut down on fuel costs.
To prove this point, there’s the story of one US Wildfire dealer who has completely put any auto sales he may make on hold, due to the overwhelming demand for cheap scooters and cheap mopeds.
He recently told a reporter he chose the Wildfire brand to carry and sell because, unlike other Chinese scooter manufacturers, he's had no problems ordering parts for them.
Another reason is affordability...the Wildfire brand starts at less than $1,000 for the small 50cc model.
That’s one reason why it’s just not the students and young adults desiring these….higher gas prices blue-collar and white-collar workers acquiring these as a cheaper form of transportation.
And that has dealers like this one scrambling to keep up with the ever-decreasing inventory.
He says he’s been advised to scoop up as many as he can from the manufacturers, as demand will likely cause scooter and moped prices to rise.
He adds, "I just hope I can get more."
Another Wildfire dealer reached for comment said, “My customers can get almost 3 of my Wildfires for the price of 1 of the others!”
Another Wildfire distributor of five years added, “We have had excellent service from our dealer. Tthey try to get any problems that might arise fixed. I have nothing but good to say with the people from Wildfire…they have excellent scooters for the money. I know firsthand…I don’t have lots of service issues. If I had, I would say so!”
