Finding Used Buick Grand National Parts and Accessories
There is no question that the Buick Grand National has been one of the most successful and versatile vehicles ever put out by General Motors. The company began minting Grand Nationals in 1973 and finally discontinued the line in 2004 in favor of the Buick LaCrosse. What started out as a personal luxury car evolved into a mid-sized vehicle related to the Toyota Camry and Mercury Cougar.
You can find two-door coupe and four-door sedan Nationals. The original mintings featured a stylish A-body. The cars manufactured during the final 16 years of the run featured a W-body platform.
Many people compare the Grand National with major Chevy models, such as the Impala and the Lumina. Others liken the car to the Oldsmobile Intrigue or the Cutlass Supreme. Still, there is no denying that the National itself (particularly the muscle car racing version) was an animal unto itself. In 1987, just prior to the introduction of the W-body platform, Buick introduced a new premium muscle car called the GNX. This boasted a turbo charger made from ceramic materials, a computer chip (very hi-tech at the time), and modifications to the torque converter for extreme cornering action.
The ‘87 GNX could do zero to 60 in less than five seconds and could top its rival Porsche 930 and 911 models in terms of acceleration. Famous Grand National drivers include Sean Penn (whose vehicle was stolen and retrieved in ‘03) and top-end NASCAR racers. The all black Grand National has also been featured in numerous movies thanks to its elusive appearance. Ensure that any Grand National parts you find from fellow collectors come with good warranty guarantees and proper paperwork.
