I have been contacted by many users on here asking how to do the DIY Type-R Red Valve Cover so I have provided the materials needed and procedure steps below
Materials Needed:
-VHT wrinkle red high temp paint
-Painters tape
-Small knife or blade
-Sandpaper or Scuff Pad/Brillo Pad
-Degreaser
-Isopropyl Alcohol
Step 1: After removing your valve cover, clean thoroughly with a degreaser or dishwasher detergent and water to remove the engine oil and gunk that has built up.
Step 2: After it has dried completely, scuff the valve cover so that it has a rough surface for the paint to stick to.
Step 3: Clean again with water and degreaser or dishwasher detergent.
Step 4: Use painters tape to cover all holes and areas you do not wish to apply paint to. Then use the exacto knife to have more precise edges.
Step 5: Wipe down the entire valve cover with isopropyl alcohol.
Step 6: Take the valve cover in to an environment/room approximately 70 degrees in temperature (this is very important) and lay multiple coats in different directions about 10 minutes apart.
Step 7: Bake in an oven for 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 hours, remove the painters tape, then re-install. Some feel that this step is optional since the paint may cure while driving the vehicle at operating temperature.
