Buying an ebay truck can be rewarding or disastrous. The primary thing to do is to compare prices with your local market to see if you are getting a fair deal. Not all old trucks are worth refurbishing. If a used truck will not drive under its own power back home, consider only buying one that will. Due to larger weights shipping to your destination may be cost prohibitive. Who would like to purchase an eyesore anyway? If your mind is set, and buying is what you are going to do ask the seller many questions. A lot of old trucks have been setting for years with the last oil change unremembered. Ideally a truck ready to drive cross country would have all fresh fluids including fresh fuel. Tires, lights, and brakes should also be safety inspected. Driving at night should be avoided due to the added stress of the lighting on the older neglected charging systems. Plan on taking the slower routes, because most older model trucks will not cruise the US interstate system at 70-80 mph.
Some states are very strict about titling issues. Ask the seller if they are in possession of a very good condition title. Titles that have writing all over them, or look like they were involved with a rats nest may be totally unacceptable to your state department of motor vehicles. What good will your investment be without a valid title? Just some things to think about.
