Having had several years experience buying Wilson hulls , fitting them out and selling them as complete ready to go turn key packages I can give a very accurate idea of what costs will be involved as broken down below. The purpose of this breakdown is to demonstrate what excellent value the Solent Fisher offers as a completed package without having to self assemble a boat from bare mouldings.
(Ebay rules do not permit me to place a direct link to our Solent Fisher website but you can click on my ebay items for more info on the Solent Fisher which is allowed, or simply google Solent Fisher.)
The other aspect is the legal position when assembling a self assembly boat for home completion.
The European Recreational Craft Directive passed a law for all new boats proffesionally built after 1998 to attain certain standards and pass certain floatation / buoyancy and stability tests. Each craft should then display by law a builders plate including CE mark , a hull number and be issued with a comprehensive owners manual.
The new law stated that home built boats for personal use are exempt from the recreational craft directive and do not need to display a builders plate , hull number etc, PROVIDING that the boat is kept for personal use and not sold in the European Community ( UK & Europe ) in the first five years. To do so would be illegal and be subject to fine or possible imprisonment.
The Wilson range of boats are not CE approved and are for home completion, therefore purchase and assembly of one of their craft would mean you are not legally able to sell your boat on until after 5 years of use. You would also have difficulty taking such a craft to use in Europe as they are very strict on use of watercraft and require boats to be registered , insured , etc which can be difficult without a hull number.
Price breakdown :

All prices include VAT:
Complete Moulding with gunnal and windows fitted £ 3290
Stainless side / Roof / Front Pulpit Rails £ 350
( Pulpit rail is required for safer anchoring as there is no anchor hatch on the Wilson, the curved contour of the front of the hull makes it difficult to fit a 500 mm access hatch. )

Rear bung £ 3
Rear engine well drain fittings £ 5
2 x Rubber witches hat £ 9

On top of this price you may have to pay for some proffesional tools such as engine hoists, hole cutters , wiring crimps , etc to assist in the build.
We can therefore offer for a limited period a Solent Fisher as in the website pictures with one drivers seating pod and a ready to go 40 E-Tec on a trailer for £8995, this boat is also CE approved. An additional passenger pod and seat would be an extra £ 250, a stainless steering wheel £35 are the only other extras on our demo boat in the website photos.
You simply have to see for yourself the quality difference as the solent Fisher is built by Solent Ribs Ltd who have an envious reputation for quality. The outboards are also proffesionally fitted by Fairweather Marine Ltd.
The hulls of the two craft are essentially similar, although the Solent Fisher has a deeper freeboard and more additional built in buoyancy.
