January 2006, I was the unlucky high bidder of an BMW 318 engine that listing stated to fit BMW 318 from years 1996 -1999. I called and spoked with the seller who assured me that the engine would fit my 1999 BMW 318TI. First Red Flag this seller would not accept PayPal, against my better judgement I paid $875.00 including s/h via money order.
The engine arrived some 3 weeks later to my mechanic who specialize in BMW repair. The shop stated that the engine was not a 1996 and that it would not work for my car. I immediately contacted the seller, who at that time stated that he had listed the engine as a 1995 but as I clearly pointed out to him that his listing displayed 1996 -1999. The seller then stated that my repair shop was wrong but that he would except the return of the engine. I returned the engine to the seller who stall me for more than 2 months stating that the check was in the mail. Seller never refunded my money but continued promising to refund until all of my EBay remedies had expired.
Lesson learned insist on using PayPal only with this seller, PayPal afford you some additional remedies.
In April 2006, the same seller EngineGoFast listed the same engine again on Ebay with the same representations "Bmw 318, 1996 - 1999", go figure!
