The new Harley Twin Cam 96 / 6 speed touring bikes are smooth riding and have more pep than the rumor mill. The difference from the 06 back TC88 is that this engine comes as a stroker stock. What's that mean? It means it has a longer stroke for the piston, increasing the cubic inches being compressed from 88 to 96. The bore is the same as the TC88. This stroke helps compensate for some of the pep lost due to increased environmental constraints on the system in general. The engine runs hot still and should have an oil cooler added to reduce overheating.
I found the engine and transmission set up, with the new 6 speed, smooth with plenty of torque for most people. You dont kick in the 6th gear setup until around 70 mph - it acts like an overdrive, rather than a 6th speed booster that you would find in a custom bike (like those with a revtech 6 speed etc.)
If you want to boost it up a bit you can do the following (in general):
Increase the intake air flow, and put some performance pipes on. You could add a higher compression cam for a little more.
Next you could goose it up to a stroked 103 with Screaming Eagle or other brand heads, pistons & cams.
Other mods would be to go with true duals, and nip some of the environmental stuff and do some race tuning with a power commander etc.
In general, I like the set up, but am spoiled with big inch engines tuned for performance, that run faster and cooler.
