I am leaving this review as a warning to anyone who might be considering buying a used CL55 or any other "high end" Mercedes auto.
Let me start by saying that the CL55 is a very luxurious, very fun car to drive. In the CL55, Mercedes has struck a balance between luxury and performance that you will find in very few automobiles. I enjoy driving this car very much. Unfortunately, this is an extremely expensive car to maintain. My car currently has 61,000 miles. I am on the hook for all repair expense.
Recently I have had the following maintenance issue:
Driver side door auto close function inoperable: $600 to repair, in the shop for 14 days.
ABS sensor failed: $600 to repair, in the shop for a week
Active Body Control, Two valves leaking, system failed: $1,800 to repair in the shop for 10 days
These three items all happened within the last six months.
I have had my car serviced at two different dealerships in the Phoenix area. It is worth noting that one provided a loaner car (C230 in Chandler) while the other offered a rental car at around $35/day (North Scottsdale). It is my impression that dealerships do not stock the parts that are necessary to fix this car.
I feel confident that this car has a drive train that will provide years of trouble free operation. I am however concerned about the reliability of the dozens of "gadgets" on this car and the cost to maintain these items.
I hope you find this review useful.
