Ebay is an imperfect system, simply because for the most part it is running on non-binding contracts. You cant make people who bid on your items pay, even though by bidding, they're under legal contract to pay. EBay could solve this problem by charging buyers' credit cards (which they have on file) once they hit the "confirm purchase" button. But they dont want to take that responsibility. I guess that would also give them another fee to charge to sellers for.
I've heard a lot of excuses, family emergencies and the bid was done by another person without their knowledge was so far top the list. Whether its true or not you're still left with no payment for an item that sold.
The point is buyers dont take very seriously the consequence of clicking the confirm bid button. They have to accept it to move on with the bid, thats it!, How much you try to reach/contact them is up to you. After 7 days, you can file an Unpaid Item Dispute to get back your Final Value Fee. BUT you wont get your listing fee back however, (what if its a Buy It Now...which charges high listing fee) It will be treated as an unsold item.
To sum it up, the sellers are on the lossing end when it comes to Non-Paying Bidders. They have to wait/initiate to get their FVF back but they cant get back their listing cost and what if thier item is time sensitive ( tickets, etc).
We need all the inputs of the entire eBay community to come up with a solution to finally end this delemma.
