Here are shopping on eBay tips that take the fear away and
bring the "Buying eBay Clothing" safety level to a new high!
Like many of you, I had found many bargains on eBay over
the years. I didn’t purchase them because the price was
so low. I mistakenly thought if the price was low, the product
would be inferior. WRONG!
Check out the seller feedback in four ways:
1. Do they have more than 300 recent positive feedback
as a seller (not as a buyer)? This assures you that the seller
is doing eBay as a business with satisfied customers.
2. Is there any negative feedback? If so read what they said.
3. What do former customers say about the product?
4. What do former customers say about shipping?
Check out the seller's return policy:
1. Do they offer full refund if product is not what you expected?
2. Full refund usually does not include returning postage since
the seller does not keep the money for shipping.
3. There are some sellers who run $.99 auctions on NEW items
But have a lengthy disclaimer in their return policy for flaws,
missing beads & buttons or stains. If they will not refund for those
flaws, there is probably a lot of negative feedback as well.
Check out their shipping and handling rates:
1. Have they overcharged for shipping by adding high handling?
Note: (If the product is under 1 pound, it can be shipped Priority
mail for only $4.60 within the US.
Anything over actual postage cost is kept by the seller as a
handling charge.) I once was the winner of a ring for only $.99.
I didn’t notice that the shipping was $14 to mail a tiny ring from
the US to the US. When I received the package the seller had
only paid 80 cents to ship it and pocketed $13.20 for “handling”.
NOT GOOD! A normal price for handling should only be $1.00.
Check out the wording carefully for “NEW” or “Pre-owned”
1. Determine if the product is new from the shelf of a
department store (with price tags attached.) If it is a NEW
“shelf-pull” product, there is a good chance the item just didn’t
sell within the month they put it out, and is in perfect condition.
2. If the item is “Pre-owned” look for the condition of the item.
I have found many “like-new” items in the pre-owned category
that were wonderful. If you have any doubts, send the seller
an email through eBay messages and don’t bid on the item
until you are satisfied that the item will be what you expect or
that your money will be refunded if it is not what you expect.
When buying clothing, check the measurements, not just size.
As a seller of women’s clothing, I was amazed at the size
chart differences each company uses. For that reason I
take the extra time to measure the item so you can see
for yourself if the item will fit your personal measurements.
Does the seller offer payment through PayPal?
1. PayPal is really the only way to pay for items on eBay that
is a secure way to keep personal checking and Credit Card
information from being seen by the seller.
2. PayPal offers all major credit cards, debit cards and a bank
draw option that holds your check in pending until it actually
clears your bank. This protects both the buyer and seller
