Are you packing your items properly?
I have received some eBay shipments recently that really upset me. Collectible items crammed in a too small box, breakables with no protective cushion, delicate items not individually wrapped, a rare promo record sent in a padded envelope! I didn't leave negative feedback, but I did contact these folks and asked them to take better care next time. They were actually happy with my advice, so I decided to create a simple guide for other new sellers on how to properly pack your items.
Remember that somebody paid good money for your item and would like it to arrive in the condition you described.
WHAT TO USE:- Boxes - Use a STRONG box for anything that can break or get dented (some people like to keep items in their display box). The box needs adequate room for padding around your item.
- Padding - Bubble Wrap, Foam Peanuts, Air Pillows, crumpled up newspaper (only for sturdier items).
- Wrapping - Wrap multiple items individually so they don't rub together. Tissue paper or even paper towel will work.
- Plastic Bags - For added protection from moisture (rain, leaky garden hoses), place the item inside a plastic bag and tape it shut.
Remember that items you buy for packing and shipping are a business expense and can be deducted from your income. (talk to a tax pro about that)
WHERE TO FIND THEM:
- Here on eBay - You can find wholesale shipping products like boxes, bubble wrap, foam peanuts, etc.
- The Post Office - If you use USPS Priority Mail, their boxes are free!
- Small Stores - Find out when they'll be discarding their boxes and packing materials. You can get everything you need for FREE!!!
Remember to be prepared for the worst: Your box getting dropped, kicked, dented or crushed while at the post office or UPS. If you don't pack your items properly, it will be YOUR fault, not the shipper's.
If you take the time to pack your items properly, you'll get great feedback and possibly return business. You'll also build confidence in new buyers.
Thanks for reading my guide. Hope it helps!
