This is my personal experience.I think country decor has changed into shabby cottage chic decor. So in order to get the country feel to a home the older the better,if you have an idea of a theme it is easy to go from there,.say you like apples then everything you buy would consist of apples in one form or another.Placing a wood shelf in the center of the wall starts your collage.then place an appropriate picture above it. add some scones on the sides of that.add in ivy and/ or apple swags above picture or laying on shelf.ADD apple accents or an apple scented candle on the shelf.(say this is in your kitchen) add some apple dish towels, pot holders, rugs. add in some form of plaid, some old tins, a wicker basket with real fruit inside on the table.place a red checkerd runner on your table.make some apple placemats or table cloth.layering is the key!!!layer layer layer...pick up some old country dolls add tiny apples to her hair.(to tie her in the theme)curtains should remain plaid.Make a potpouri fake pie to place ON TOP stove when done using oven and it is turned off the scent will fill the room.nothing is more country then the smell of fresh apple pie.(to make this all you need is an old pie tin pan fill with potpouri cut some old fabric into long strands about 1 -2 inches thick (use a scissors that allows scalloped edging) lay on pie both ways like a real apple pie looks.* im usuing apples as an example you could do anything~ watermelon cows pigs ect. the pie is for the scent of grandmas kitchen (they sell any scent you can think of now a days even suger cookies.)I hope this helps some of you.all you really have to do is remember to layer.also age your shelfs paint them then take sand paper and scuff them up focusing on edges ect.this will give some country charm too.have a great ebay day.
