cigarette lighter fuses

Cigarette lighter fuses are commonly blown in domestic vehicles from 96 and up.  Many people used a cell phone and the car charger that comes with it.  These fuses can break if the cell phone is connected to the charger before plugging it into the cigarette lighter on the vehicle.

Also it is difficult to have codes read from the vehicle at AutoZone since this fuse cuts of power to the data link connector.

So if you own a ford or chevrolet 96 and newer and have no power from the cigarette lighter, this is the first place to check.  The owner's manual will specify where the fused is found on the vehicle.

Ford fuse location: check driver side (on the side) of the dash panel or passenger side kick panel for a CIG fuse (20amp) yellow fuse.

GM fuse location: under hood, driver side in box labeled ELECTRICAL CENTER, labeled CIG(15 amp) Blue fuse.
