My lil girl who sleeps with me every night (she is quite the cuddlier) began getting blackheads at about 7 months old. We spent the next 2 months trying lotions and potions some made expressly for crested and very expensive. Nothing worked at all. in fact they got worse!
I am a diabetic, and when she was 9 months old, I was sitting at my desk testing my sugar level. A light bulb went off in my head, and I called her over to me. I took one of the alcohol prep pads, and scrubbed at her ugly black heads on her tummy with the prep pad using a lot of force. When I looked at the used prep pad I was amazed to see the dark grime on it. AMAZED BECAUSE SHE HAD JUST HAD HER MORNING BATH ONLY HOURS AGO!!!! ( I use a scrub brush and a mild soap when bathing her, and I do scrub)
I went thru at least 100 prep pads (they are very small) The end result was my lil gal lost thousands of blackheads. The prep pads sorta acted like an eraser for the small and medium blackheads, leaving only the larger overgrown ones. This process dried her skin out. I used what I use on my face Mary Kay extra emollient night cream. I applied a very thin coat then wiped her down with a warm wash cloth. she was left with soft supple skin, except for the spot where I had rubbed too much and too hard.
In the last three months her blackheads have continued to decrease. She is down to about 2 per square inch.
She does not mind the prep pads as much as the useless scrub brush and she loves the Mary Kay rub down. One thing that is consistent is the dark grime I get off of her in her every week prep pad treatment. I only use 5 or 6 pads a week now.
I think that that dark grime is what causes the blackheads, and I think only the hairless gets it. The reason I think this is this summer I shaved down my powder puff because it was so hot. I expected to see those ugly blackheads, but there was not even one. I then scrubbed her belly with a prep pad and no grime at all! I wish I knew what the black grime was, and how to stop it but I do not.
My lil hairless that sleeps with me has much better skin now. I hope that this helps another crested owner I am Norman's wife Donna
PS I do not sell prep pads nor Mary Kay, but you can buy them on ebay
update..... also try plain yogurt on the blackheads
If you try this please do it on a tiny spot on the underside of your dog, wait 24 hours to check for rash, before you proceed.
