Here is part four of the little guide I've written on the Corvair. People need to use common sense when bidding on items, meaning that you gotta know what they are worth. It makes no sense to pay twice the cost for a used copy of a book or a catalog when its cost new is half what some are bidding them up to. The publications that I referred to earlier are currently in print and available new at very reasonable retail prices from a number of vendors. Buying an outdated catalog, makes absolutely no sense, Corvair Underground and Clarks Corvair have their latest catalogs available for just a few dollars. Buying a 2000 or 1997 or 1988 edition of their catalogs is an absolute waste of money. Used copies of the GM Factory Shop Manuals and used copies of THE CORSA TECH GUIDE can be worthwhile, just be certain that you pay less than what they sell for new from the Corvair vendors. These aren't rare, as they have been reprinted and are readily available. The same is true for How To Keep Your Corvair Alive by Richard Finch. Another essential Corvair book you must have is The Classic Corvair by Bob Helt (2001) ISBN 1-55212-948-9 which has great info for novices and hardcore Corvair people. Popular Mechanics May 1965 is worth finding. Consumer Reports March 1966 and Motor Trend June 1963 are good also. Back issues of the CORSA (Corvair Society of America) Communique are good for Tech Tips. You can purchase back issues from CORSA or find them on ebay just don't overpay for them with 5000 + CORSA members there is no shortage of copies. From 2001 find FEB APR JUL From 2002 find MAR JUN JUL AUG NOV & DEC from 2003 get FEB MAR NOV & DEC from 2004 get JUL & OCT and from 2005 get MAR MAY NOV & DEC These issues have great info and tech tips that will be most helpful to Corvair newcomers. If you are a fan of YENKOS get Jan 2001 & MAR 2006 and 1969model nuts must see MAY 2003 & DEC 2002. A GOOD HOW TO PREPURCHASE INSPECT AN ENGINE CAN BE FOUND IN DEC 2005 issue. Lastly there is another great forum for Corvair information and tips and that is The Corvair Center Forum It is moderated by the same Corvair expert that moderates the Virtual Vairs site. Learn as much as you can about these great vehicles so you can make the best informed bidding and buying decisions with ebay seeking your fun Corvair. You will know more and know what is really a good buy and what isn't. Be informed and use common sense and good judgement and please be informed so you avoid scammers and have the best ebay experience. Drive those Corvairs when you can as they are fun to drive when properly rebuilt and sorted out. Good luck.
