SO....You're at a garage sale and you see a stack of beer trays for $10 each...you think about buying them to resell, but you don't know if they are a bargain or not. This guide is intended as a GENERAL INFORMATION AID as there are ALWAYS exceptions.SO...back to the garage sale...assuming all the trays are in decent condition, which ones do you want to buy ?? As a rule, you want the ones advertising beers you have never heard of.A miller or Budweiser tray MIGHT get you your ten dollars back...But a manhattan, log cabin,or rosalie tray might easily make your house payment !! Its the same story with the old cans themselves...There is only 1 variety of Budweiser can ever made that is considered rare, the Bud Bock. But a Manhattan or a tiger beer can in reasonable condition would likely bring $3500.00 or more in ANY market. The idea is much the same with can openers, calanders, coasters, and other advertising pieces.Beer bottles, even in perfect condition, are hard to sell,no matter what the brand name.
SODA advertising is basically as a general rule EXACTLY OPPOSITE of breweriana.Soda bottles find a ready market, although most are in the under $10 range...Also if the trays at our imaginary garage sale are Coca Cola,Orange Crush,or Dads root beer, they will be much more valuable than say...Whistle,Vernors,or Pokagon. The reason for this is pretty simple There are a LOT more people who collect Coke and Pepsi items than there are people who collect Pabst blue ribbon or vernors ginger ale items. How this situation came to be is complicated...But it is what it is and if you want to turn a profit, you are controlled by your market.BUT remember.with beer and soda advertising items..as with most things CONDITION IS EVERYTHING.A common piece in mint condition will usually sell before a tougher piece in poor condition.
