One thing to remember, Apatite is a soft unusual stone, it is rarely seen put into Jewelry and so many people and jewelers included may not realize what it is and what characteristics it has to be aware of. So it is very important to not only realize them but be sure to tell any Jeweler whom you entrust to work on your ring that Apatite should NEVER be puty in an ultrasonic cleaner, NEVER be steamed NEVER be near any plating solution, as these will literally destroy your stone. Apatite is very sensitive to heat shock and it should be worn with care occasionally , not doing dishes or gardening etc, Clean gently with room temperature water and a mild soap, a soft toothbrush. But my main point for this guide was for you apatite owners to warn your jeweler if your having any work done, sizing, setting, etc., as an Apatite can appear to them as topaz or tourmaline etc, so they may be unaware of the stones weaknesses and treat it as most normal gemsones which can be cleaned with ultrasonic and steamer, but ruin apatite, which due to their rarity and variety of color etc. can lead to a difficult time replacing and a frustrating ordeal that could be avoided by people being aware and courteous as well as wise and well informed.
