Tips on Choosing a Handbag
A woman’s handbag is a reflection of her personality and moods. To make a fashion statement of who you are, choose a bag that expresses your individuality . . . and change bags to match your mood and the occasion.
There are many styles, brands, and materials from which to choose. You need not spend a fortune on a handbag; but you will want to determine what you want, the level of quality you require, and how to get the most bag for the money you spend.
Before purchasing a bag, spend some time observing what other women are carrying to get a feel for which styles most appeal to you. There are also many online shopping venues where you can compare different styles, including my own personal favorite, eBay!
Some women have one basic handbag for all occasions. (I used to be one of them.) That can be so boring! Changing purses to match your attire, or your mood, can really give you a lift.
I would suggest you begin building your purse wardrobe with a classic, quality leather bag. My favorites are my black Coach shoulder bag, tan Stone Mountain organizer bag, and black and tan Dooney and Bourke tote. Then you may want a fun, flirty bag such as a quilted cotton Vera Bradley or a Kathy Van Zeeland. Add a shopper or backpack and an evening bag or clutch to carry on an evening out. Look around at what is available and choose the purses that appeal to you.
Finally, do not be afraid to break old fashion rules. The rule that handbag, shoes, and belt should always match is not really relevant today. The only rules I subscribe to are that accessories should complement each other, and they should be appropriate for a particular occasion. Have fun with style and go with the bags you like and that suit your personality and mood.
