Like most musical instuments learning to play the bagpipes can be difficult.  Purchasing your first set of pipes can be confusing.  Bagpipes are made in two places Scotland and Little Scotland in Pakistan.  The top quality pipes come from Scotland and the lower quality or beginner pipes are made in Pakistan.  On ebay almost all bagpipes offered for sale are from Pakistan which doesn't make them bad only affordable to the first time buyer.  Scottish pipes sell for 800.00- 8,000.00 while Pakistan pipes sell for 150.00-350.00 Beware of pipes selling for under 150.00 as they most likely will not be playable.  Professional bagpipers usually turn thier noses up at the Pakistan pipes as an insult to the bagpipe industry. The Scottish bagpipe industry's little secret is that many Scottish firms sell Pakistan pipes as Scottish,in fact the tourist stores in Scotland are loaded with Pakistan products.  Scotland is the biggest importer of Pakistan bagpiper products so buying a set of pipes from Scotland may give you a set of Pakistan pipes anyway. Are Pakistan pipes good ?  Like anything quality varies with the maker,cheap Pakistan pipes are awful while the better more expensive ones are good.  Look for good feedback on ebay with a customer satisfaction guarantee.  Remember most beginner bagpipers love the music,the celtic heritage,and the challenge of a new hobby.  Have fun with your new bagpipes and the huge selection ebay has to offer.
