Hi! This book was given to my family by Mary Ronald. she wrote the book in 1898, if my memory is write. But, it was published in 1909.
The reason for this is that the publisher wanted to publish under her husband name, as though he wrote the book, but Mary kept stating that her husband could not cook and she is the one that wrote the book. In the 19th, century a woman was not aloud publishing under her maiden name. it took 11 years before she had the restricted permission to publish.
I still have the table skirt use for the picture in the book. Now a days we use table cloth not table skirts. The table skirt as the family initials on it. This is a great cook book. we are forgetting how people used to manage with out electricity, when everything was done by hand, (canning, jarring, keeping vegetable in root Sellers, preserving meat for the winter) . And no aspirin or antibiotic, (cataplasme) poultice made with wild herbs, and roots gathered in the wood in the fall, and 100 proof alcohol take from the bottom of the silo in the spring.
These where the days.
Anybody interested in collection, this one is rare and worth keeping.
