1. What is Vastu & its basic principles?

VASTU (or vaastu or vasthu or vastushastra) is an ancient Indian science of architecture, placements and alignments of  objects and construction.

Everything that exists in the universe, including our bodies, is made of five elements.

 These five elements are earth (geomagnetic energy),

water (gravitational energy),

fire (solar energy),

air (wind energy) and

space (cosmic radiation).

These five forces have a powerful influence on us. Vastu is the science of arrangement, placements and alignments  of - articles - objects - construction - architecture - structures - colors- shapes - with these five forces of nature. If we are not aligned with solar and geomagnetic forces we may experience illness, misfortune and struggle. It is as if we are attempting to swim against the current of a river.The east is the source of solar, ultra-violet rays, and the north is the source of magnetic energy. We benefit by keeping our environment open to these life supporting energies. The harmful infrared rays, which come from the south, and the destructive gamma rays, coming from the west, cause disruption within the environment and our bodies. Using the principles of Vastu Shastra, we protect ourselves from these rays.
Each of these elements is associated with a particular direction: water in the northeast, fire in the southeast, earth in the southwest, air in the northwest and space in the center. By balancing these elements in their proper proportions, we will gain the benefits of health, happiness and prosperity.

2.  Why one should apply Vastu?

Answer – Premises constructed according to vastu are traditionally understood to promote the well being, happiness, and good fortune of the occupants by aligning life with nature and its cosmic ordering intelligence. Living in harmony with the nature is theme of Vastu. You will receive the maximum life enhancing energy and support of nature, which will assist you in unfolding your full potential. You will have more opportunities and your thinking will be clear to act on them in the proper time.

3.When should we consult for Vastu?

Answer-It is best to consult for Vastu when purchasing or renting an house, office, apartment or when designing or renovating  a home or office . You can also use Vastu for any existing structure or when you are facing problems at home or office.

4.Which is the ideal Shape of plot ?

Answer – Irregular shape are not recommended in vastu. According to vastu, Square shape plot is excellent & good for any type of construction.  A plot is rectangular having length & breadth not more than 1:2 is also good. A triangular, circular or any odd shape plot should be avoided.    

5. When will I notice the benefits of Vastu?

Answer: When the elements are balanced in your environment, opportunities will come. It is up to you to utilize these opportunities. You may notice some improvements right away; others may take up to a year.

6.  Can I benefit from using Vastu Shastra without demolishing my home or office?

Answer:-Yes, These are a few very easy cures that you can make. You can sleep in the southwest area of your house with your head to the south. You can place heavier furniture to the south and west. Keep the center, north and east areas of your home open and free of clutter. You can also place a fountain in the northeast and a light in the southeast. Just using these basic suggestions can have positive benefits in your life.

7.Location of studyroom has any effect on Vastu?

Answer:-During the study, one should face the North or the East or the Northeast.  These directions attract the positive effects of Mercury increasing brain power, Jupiter increasing wisdom, Sun increasing ambition and Venus helps in bringing about creativity in new thoughts and ideas.  Books may be kept in the Southwest side of the room.

8.What is the scientific basis for having a lot slope down to the north and    the east?.

Answer: A lower level in the northeast allows the positive magnetic energy coming from the north and the positive solar energy (ultraviolet rays) coming from the east to enter your property and house. This downward slope to the northeast allows water to flow there and absorb the positive energies. Then this positive magnetic energy can flow unobstructed to the southwest where it is deposited. The higher level in the south and west protects you from harmful gamma and infrared rays.

9.  What is the role of religion in Vaastu Shastra?

Answer:-Vaastu Shastra is a science - it has nothing to do with religion. It is true that over the years Vaastu Shastra has imbibed religious overtones, but that does not seem to have been the original idea. The religious implications were probably inculcated by the proponents of the science, when they realised that the society of that time, being a God fearing one, would not accept norms that strayed away from the notions of God.

10.   What is the significance of the Vaastu Purusha?

Answer:-The 'Vaastu Purusha' is said to be the spirit of the site. It's in the form of a human male and lies on the site with his head towards the east, his posture fitting exactly in a square. It was easier to get the anthropometrically and aesthetically correct dimensions of rooms, doors windows and even the structural members like plinth and pillars. Even the interior planning was governed by the posture of the 'Vaastu Purusha' and the norms which specified where and how the structure must be built, so that it does not injure him.

11.  Is Vaastu shastra relevant in the modern world?

Answer:-All the ancient doctrines of Vaastu Shastra may not be applicable in the present scenario. But the basic principles can be easily applied on present constructions. We have now computers, mobiles, jets , cars and so many gadgets which were not prevailing in ancient times. The magnetic field of the earth plays and important role while formulating Vaastu Shastra which can significantly influence human life. According to Vaastu Shastra, one should never keep his/her head towards the north while lying as it obstructs the circulatory system causing irregular sleep, tension, paranoia and other mental problems.The magnetic fields of the same poles repel each other while the opposite attracts each other, therefore a person should keep his/her head towards the south or east.

12.   Would I be highly successful and wealthy after I make the modification in my house as per Vastu Shastra science ?

Answer:-After modifying your home and work place as per Vastu Shastra guidelines, You would find remarkable improvement in your attitude towards life, you would be relatively more at peace and would be able to work efficiently. This would translate into prosperity and happiness, but the degree of benefit would also depend on your "karmas (deeds)" and your destiny.

 Five Elements
Vastu Shastra  is based on the five basic and essential elements, such as Vayu (air), Agni (fire), Jal (water), Bhumi (earth) and Akasha (space). These five elements are known as Panchabhutas. Everything on earth is built from these elements. Honor this  five elements in the five directions of your space &  acknowledge nature by incorporating natural elements into your environment. There is an invisible and constant relation between these elements outside and those within an individual and in his living and working places. Thus, the man can improve his conditions by properly designing his buildings by understanding the effectiveness of these five natural forces. All the above elements are skillfully engineers towards the creation of physically comfortable, emotionally pleasant, intellectually determinant, totally vibrant and blissfully satisfying spaces for human shelter and habitat. It is unending regions remote from the earth, in which not only our solar system but the entire galaxy exists. Its effective forces are light, heat, gravitational force and waves, magnetic field and others.
 
Sky (Space) 

Sky represents  an endless space. The entire universe exists in this ethereal vacant space. The universal concept of sky is beyond human imagination or comprehension. central zone or the Brahmasthan is the area where the Element of Space is located and is thereby recommended to be free from any kind of obstacles or hindrances like pillar, wall, stairs or fixtures. Disturb brahmasthan is a big vastu defect.

Vayu (Air or Wind)

Air keeps  the earth in motion. Element air represents movement.  It known as a life supporting element  Air has two characteristics viz., sound and sense of touch.

Fire  (Agneya)

Fire element represents  light and heat.  In nature, all the energy sources originate from Agni (fire element). As mentioned in the ancient texts, the motive force for all the five basic elements is provided by the Agni element.

Agni in a sense is a medium of signalling and communication as described in Vedic scriptures.

Water

Water is a vital element for all living beings. Since ancient times, be it humans or other living beings, they have colonized near water bodies like river, lake, pond well etc. Availability and source of potable water like well, hand pump, boring, piped water supply, direction of the water storage, direction of the flow of used water like sever are some of the main points which are taken care of under it.  Most prosperous cities of the world are located near the water body.

Earth 

Earth is a big magnet with North and South poles as centers of attractions. Its magnetic field and gravitational force has telling effects on everything on the Earth, living and non-living. It comprises of the land structure, landform, landscape, flora and fauna. In India, earth is  worshiped as a Bhumi and given a status of  mother.
