WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS.....
Technology has come a long way, but unfortunately, we do not yet have smell-o-vision, so if you are buying a candle online, you will have to rely on the website's description. The only problem is...well...have you read some of Yankee Candle's fragrance descriptions? Let's cut to the chase and have some fun while we're at it. I am going to list three of YC's most popular fragrances-by description only! Do you think you can figure out what they are? Answers below.
- A tropical breeze of sweet orange flower, lemony citrus, fresh lavender and powdery musk
-A heartwarming blend of cinnamon, baking spices and a hint of poured tea
-A festive, woodsy aroma of fresh fir needles with notes of boxwood, bergamot, juniper and lavender.
You nay be surprised to learn that these three descriptions are for Sun and Sand (smells like suntan lotion), Home Sweet Home (smells like cinnamon red hots) and Sparkling Pine (lavender? I don't smell any lavender!)
I can remember reading the description for the scent Egyption Cotton. It claims to have pure egyptian cotton seed oil in it from Egypt! I somehow doubt that YC had really flown in Egyptian cotton seeds. If they did, however, I doubt that the oils from a cotton seed smell anything like the candle.
The other night I had a friend over who was raving about how much she loved the Candied Apple scent. Just for fun, I read her the description from YC's cartalog: From the county fair - crisp red apples coated with a mix of melted sugar, orange, pear and vanilla. She was very surprised as she is not a vanilla fan and is allergic to pears. The description could have simply said Candied Apples and let the name speak for itself. My friend, who loves this candle would never have purchased it after reading the current description.
I realize that scents are a complicated thing, and that Yankee strives to be a high-end candle, but perhaps, this time they have gone over the top.
